For our viewing pleasure, the wildlife off the coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia has performed a live, real-time documentary: humpback whales (spectacular twisted dance, leaping above the surface!), dolphins, abundant seals (perky noses and hollow eyes peeping above the surface), loons, terns and seagulls, bald eagle, sea otters, jellyfish (hot pink and neon orange), sea stars (starfish; see photo below), sunfish (a type of starfish with 20 legs), deer. Have I forgotten anything? No bears or moose or orcas (killer whales) yet, even though we are in the heart of orca territory. Had an invasion of humpbacks this year, according to a local fisherman.
